Before there was a brand or I had any recognition as a designer, there was an idea. The Villain was the first concept I ever sketched, laying the groundwork for one of our most significant releases. On a hot summer night, while watching YouTube clips of my favorite childhood team, the 49ers, a split-second moment sparked inspiration. I felt compelled to act on an idea that wasn’t yet in the market.
As we prepared to launch John Elliott, I found myself revisiting old Joe Montana highlights. In one clip—though I’ve never been able to find it again—He’d just been sacked, and his asymmetrically cut jersey draped over his hand warmer. That moment inspired the Hooded Villain, a piece that would become a cornerstone of our Mainline French terry collection. It captured the balance of form and function, much like Montana’s jersey. Years later, it remains one of our foundational designs.
