Surplus Group
The Surplus Group was developed out of reverence for vintage military clothing. Historically, these garments lend themselves to construction techniques that emphasize fit and function. Similar to our design approach, pieces from this era layer to form complete looks.
During a development trip to Nakameguro, Japan, a mecca for vintage clothing, we discovered a trove of deadstock 1940’s World War II base layers. The sundrenched finish, yarn construction, dye techniques, and sewing details of these finds became the building blocks for this program.
Tees from this development utilize recycled cotton yarns that are knit looser than our Mainline styles to enhance texture. The resulting jersey fabric is lightweight with an extra soft hand. We incorporated flat lock stitching for a clean, finished seam, self-binding trim at the neck, and blind stitch detailing at the sleeves and hem. This offering is available in crewneck tee and slim-fit henley styles.
Our French terry is custom-knit with a low yarn count, which results in a heather texture with a dry hand feel. Sweatshirts in this group feature vintage details like a center front gusset pad, inside-out flat lock stitching, and binding finishing at the kangaroo pocket. The Surplus Sweatpant is introduced in a new, relaxed fit with elasticated cuffs.
